Rock of Ages Loses Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin drops out of the musical Rock of Ages

Warner Bros. upcoming musical Rock of Ages has lost a key cast member with Alec Baldwin leaving the project.

Director Adam Shankman announced the casting back in March on his Twitter page. Insiders now claim that Alec Baldwin has backed out of the project for unknown reasons. He was set to play Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room nightclub which is a key component to the musical.

Adam Shankman is directing from a screenplay by Chris D'Arienzo. Production is slated to start on May 19 in Miami, although with this new casting departure, it remains unclear if that start date will be met.

We also reported back in March that Alec Baldwin dropped out of another high-profile project, Men in Black III, although that was due to scheduling conflicts.

Rock of Ages comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Mary J. Blige, Tom Cruise, Bryan Cranston, Julianne Hough, Paul Giamatti, Diego González Boneta, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman. The film is directed by Adam Shankman.
