In the Canadian wilderness, a young runaway mutant named Rogue (Anna Paquin) and a bad-tempered, quick-healing mutant with retractable metal claws called Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are suddenly attacked by Sabertooth, one of Magneto's (Ian McKellen) powerful lackeys. Fortunately, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Storm (Halle Berry), students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), interfere and bring them back to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Here Wolverine and Rogue learn more about the conflict between Xavier and the militant Magneto, who wants to power a device that will genetically alter humans, with possibly deadly results. Only Xavier's students can stop Magneto's plans. Director Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) displays his expertise with an ensemble cast, accomplishing a feat by making the first live-action film about an entire group of superheroes. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the ill-tempered Wolverine is dead-on, while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are ideally matched in their Martin Luther King, Jr.- and Malcolm X-like roles. Smart and well-paced, X-MEN towers above most comic book movies. (1 hr. 44 min.)

She's Too Young

The world of teenage sex is thoroughly explored in this made-for-TV drama. With Marcia Gay Harden (MYSTIC RIVER) and Alexis Dziena in lead roles, the story involves a mom, Trish (Harden), who discovers that her daughter, Hannah (Dziena), has slept with multiple partners, even though she is only 14-years-old. Entering into a battle against a society which is apathetic to the problem, as well as alienating her own daughter, Trish's attempts to take care of Hannah produce mixed results. Powerful and moving, this is a prescient piece of filmmaking that isn't afraid to hold a mirror up to the rapidly decaying moral values of today's youth.

Mean Girls

Kickin' It Old Skool

In KICKIN' IT OLD SKOOL, a 1980s-pop-culture factoid-infested comedy, Jamie Kennedy (SCREAM, SON OF THE MASK) stars as Justin Schumacher, a former break-dancing child prodigy, who wakes up 20 years after a disastrously daring dance move left him in a coma.  Justin quickly discovers that his hospital bills have put his parents (played by perpetual character actors Debra Jo Rupp and Christopher McDonald) in a financial bind, and he is determined to help them out by getting his old dancing team, the Funky Fresh Boys, together and enter a $100,000 dance contest at the local mall.  In between brushing up on his break-dancing and adapting to the technological advances and evolved fashions that surround him, Justin tries to rekindle what he had with his teenage sweetheart, Jenny (Maria Menounos), but unfortunately she is engaged to his childhood arch-nemesis, Kip (Michael Rosenbaum).  The pressure is on for Justin to either choose to make up for lost time--win Jen's heart and the dance contest--or accept adulthood and move on.

With cult favorites such as the SCREAM trilogy and THE JAMIE KENNEDY EXPERIMENT lodged firmly in their memories, fans of Kennedy will surely appreciate this goofy and slapstick-ridden film, which contains some serious undertones.  Unfortunately, the sentiment is often lost in the painfully awkward sequences of the out-of-shape Funky Fresh Boys trying to reignite the agility of their youthful glory days.  When Kennedy tries to convey Justin's bleary-eyed and constant deer-in-headlights dilemma as a recovering coma patient, at times he comes across as dopey and annoying, and undermines any talent that he possesses.  However, the film does offer some great dance performances and of course, a catchy ‘80s soundtrack. The Aristocats

The Aristocats was the first Disney Studios animated feature to be produced after Walt Disney's death. A wealthy woman leaves her vast fortune to her four cats: the well-bred Duchess and her kittens Berlioz, Toulouse, and Marie. Jealous butler Edgar, eager to get his mitts on the cats' legacy, abandons the felines in the French countryside. The four lost kitties are aided in their efforts to return home by the raffish country pussycats Thomas O'Malley and Scat Cat. In keeping with a tradition launched by The Jungle Book (1967), The Aristocats is top-heavy with celebrity voices, including Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Scatman Crothers, Hermione Baddeley, and the ineluctable Sterling Holloway. Assembled by the "nine old men" then in charge of animation, The Aristocats was a success, paving the way for future "post-Walt" cartoon features. (1 hr. 18 min.)

Alone with Her

Surveillance is often used by directors who are keen to add a voyeuristic touch to their work, and has been cleverly used as a plot device in classics such as BODY DOUBLE, THE CONVERSATION, and REAR WINDOW. In ALONE WITH HER, director Eric Nicholas (RIVER RATS) takes the theme to its logical conclusion, shooting an entire movie on cameras stashed in ingenious locations by the film's central protagonist, Doug (Colin Hanks). Doug is a dangerous loner who whiles away the hours by filming unsuspecting women on hidden cameras, ultimately developing an infatuation with Amy (Ana Claudia Talancon). But after Doug has wired up her home with cameras and microphones, he takes the ruse one step further, using the information he's garnered to align his tastes with Amy's in order to impress her at a "chance" meeting. Naturally, Amy thinks they have a lot in common after meeting him and they begin dating, which only spurs him on to greater surveillance-related depravity.

It's to Nicholas's inestimable credit that he doesn't fall into the trap of letting his clever point-of-view gimmick transcend the actual content of his movie. In fact, ALONE WITH HER is a fine 21st-century thriller that genre luminaries such as Hitchcock and De Palma would doubtless be proud of, thanks in part to compelling performances from Hanks and Talancon. But the director also manages to conjure up a palpable feeling of unease as Hanks's creepy character goes to extraordinary lengths to win the heart of his obsession, and adds just enough intrigue to keep viewers guessing how this cautionary tale will end up. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Set in the Caribbean Sea in the 17th century, this is the story of a gentleman rogue of a pirate, Jack Sparrow (Depp), who teams up with the daughter (Knightley) of a governor (Pryce) to stop the evil plan of a ship of dangerous pirates (led by Rush) who are trying to reverse an ancient curse that leaves them stuck between life and death, with the light of the moon revealing their skeletons, like some kind of undead monsters. Nine Lives

"What Time Is It?" It's time to watch the sequel to the Nielsen-busting hit HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL! This Disney Channel original movie brings back all the beloved characters from the first film, but it moves the action from the school year to the sizzling summer. Just because school's out, it doesn't mean that Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Chad (Corbin Bleu), and Taylor (Monique Coleman) just get to sit around. Instead, the four students get summer jobs at the Lava Springs Country Club, and they won't even get a break from Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale). Her family owns the club, and her biggest goal for the summer is to take Troy from Gabriella. With all the added attention, Troy gets a taste of the good life and it makes him wonder if he should be with Gabriella or enjoy the finer things. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 features more of the upbeat musical numbers that made the first film such a smash hit including "Fabulous," "Work This Out," "You Are the Music in Me," and "Gotta Go My Own Way."

Flashpoint

Bobby Logan (Kris Kristofferson) and Ernie Wyatt (Treat Williams) are burnt-out Texas border patrolmen in danger of losing their jobs when they find a 1960s-era jeep buried in the desert along with human remains, a rifle, and $800,000 in cash. Cynical Logan wants to take the money and run, but idealistic Wyatt persuades him to conduct a secret investigation first. The partners' detective work soon leads them to startling evidence connecting the jeep to the JFK assassination--with federal agents hot on their trail and eager to do anything it takes to keep the discovery a secret. This taut, little-seen political thriller is bolstered by Tangerine Dream's moody, atmospheric score and a strong supporting cast that includes Rip Torn, Kevin Conway, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, and Jean Smart. Charlie's Angels

Meet Joe Black

Death enters the Parrish household disguised as Joe Black, the handsome stranger, and although Parrish understands Death's intentions he lets the family believe that Joe Black is a young business associate. Susan is shocked to find the familiar young man at her family dinner that evening, and, as she begins a passionate love affair with the debonaire stranger, she has no idea that she has fallen not for the young stranger from the coffee shop but for Death himself. In an effort to prolong his life and his daughter's happiness, William agrees to take Joe on a tour of human life that includes board meetings, family parties, and, ultimately, romance. Moulin Rouge

Cross LA BOHÈME with CABARET, throw in a little bit of RENT, and you might almost begin to describe Baz Luhrmann's visually opulent, fast-paced, funny, heartrending MOULIN ROUGE. The film, which premiered as the opener to the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, is a musical set in 1899 Paris at the notorious Montmartre cabaret club, the Moulin Rouge. Directed by Baz Luhrmann (WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO AND JULIET, STRICTLY BALLROOM), the movie stars Nicole Kidman as the high-kicking courtesan, Satine; Ewan McGregor as the sensitive poet, Christian; and John Leguizamo as the flamboyant artist and matchmaker, Toulouse-Lautrec. Luhrmann's use of eclectic lighting and saturated color, the fast zooms and quick cuts of his camera, and his magnificent costumes and sets perfectly capture the excess and freneticism for which the Moulin Rouge was famous. Beautifully led by McGregor and Kidman, the flawless supporting cast brings to life the culture of belle époque Paris with magical realism. Above all, the anachronistic, energetic contemporary soundtrack is what drives MOULIN ROUGE, with popular songs by L'il Kim, Christina Aguilera, David Bowie, and Beck--as well as Kidman and McGregor adding their own superb vocals. Coyote Ugly

Two women are atop the bar, pulling a customer back over it, pulling up his shirt, and pouring beer on his chest. Welcome to COYOTE UGLY. How will Violet deal with the bar? How will it deal with her? Frozen

Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour

Based on the hit Disney television show, HANNAH MONTANA/MILEY CYRUS: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT TOUR 3-D provides dedicated fans an all-access pass to the Best of Both Worlds concert tour. Leaving behind character Miley Stewart, the concert instead splits time between pop phenom Hannah Montana and Cyrus, who assumes the role of Montana's "ordinary girl" alter ego. Footage of the concert is interspersed with numerous behind-the-scene vignettes. Among these are pre-tour rehearsals--orchestrated by HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL impresario Kenny Ortega--and a touching jam session with father Billy Ray Cyrus. Twilight Saga: New Moon

Following Bella Swan's ill-fated 18th birthday party, Edward Cullen and his family abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an effort to protect her from the dangers inherent in their world. As the heartbroken Bella sleepwalks through her senior year of high school, numb and alone, she discovers Edward's image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy. Her desire to be with him at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks.

With the help of her childhood friend Jacob Black, Bella refurbishes an old motorbike to carry her on her adventures. Bella's frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe, who has a supernatural secret of his own.

When a chance encounter brings Bella face to face with a former nemesis, only the intervention of a pack of supernaturally large wolves saves her from a grisly fate, and the encounter makes it frighteningly clear that Bella is still in grave danger. In a race against the clock, Bella learns the secret of the Quileutes and Edward's true motivation for leaving her. In New York City, Yussel Rabinowitz (Neil Diamond) trains to be a cantor. Although his father (Laurence Olivier) and wife, Rivka (Catlin Adams), don't approve, he also sings and writes songs for a black soul group under the name Jess Robin. When the group gets an opportunity in California, their leader, Bubba (Franklyn Ajaye), asks Jess to join them. Reluctantly, Rivka and his father let him go. In Los Angeles, Jess meets record company executive Molly Bell (Lucie Arnaz). Impressed by his music, she tries to promote him. However, Jess still struggles and is about to give up when Molly gets him a solo TV spot. Just as Jess seems set for stardom, Rivka and his father arrive to plead for his return.

Samson Raphaelson's play about a talented singer's attempts to break away from a restrictive religious family was first filmed in 1927--when it became the first talkie. This--the third version--was made in 1980. Directed by Richard Fleischer after another director was dismissed, the film focuses on Molly's struggles to find opportunities for Jess, then on Jess's subsequent concert performances. Stephanie (Amber Heard) and Ellie (Odette Yustman) are enjoying the simple life in a remote Argentinean village when an eventful night of bar-hopping leads to a booze-soaked dust-up. Frustrated, Stephanie steps outside to compose herself and watch the sun rise. Returning shortly thereafter to find that Ellie has vanished amidst signs of a struggle, Stephanie races to the police to report her friend missing. Upon learning that a number of female tourists have disappeared in recent months and that the police have few leads, the concerned friend heads back to her hotel, and relays her concerns to American expatriate Michael (Karl Urban), who displays a bit more concern than the local sheriff, and agrees to assist her in searching for Ellie. But now the more Stephanie confides in Michael, the more she begins to fear that he may have had something to do with Ellie's disappearance, and that by sticking with him she may be walking straight into his trap.
